Hunting in the Vysočina region in the Czech Republic

The Vysočina region is located in the middle of the Czech Republic in Central Europe. That is, in the middle of everything. Its altitude ranges from 239 m.a.s.l. (mouth of the river Jihlava) up to 837 m.a.s.l. (the peak of Javořice), but the average altitude is around 500 m.a.s.l. The climate is mild with mild winters, but sometimes the snowpack can surprise and hunters can enjoy long snow hunts. It is not unusual for half a meter of snow to fall here.

The Vysočina region is located in the Bohemian-Moravian highlands with preserved nature and numerous nature reserves. On the other hand, Vysočina is interwoven with villages, estates, solitudes, small towns and a diverse network of roads, while the D1 highway crosses and divides the region of Vysočina into two parts.

Thanks to the hilly terrain, various valleys, slopes, ravines, views of the near and far surroundings, streams, rivers and streams, the Highlands are a very photogenic landscape. It certainly does not bore any cyclist, hiker or hunter.

What game can be hunted in the Vysočina region

The most widespread hooved animals in the Highlands are undoubtedly wild boars, which are found in almost every corner of the region. The region is interwoven with forest complexes that alternate between fields and draws. In recent years, there was a bark beetle calamity in the Highlands, which guaranteed the wild boars an ideal environment in extensive thickets. Hunting in the Vysočina has recently become more popular, and the number of wild boars caught is also increasing.

The roe deer belongs to the Highlands. You can find it in every draw, forest or meadow. Of course, roe deer is also found in forest complexes. Roe deer hunting in Vysočina can be compared to the most beautiful hunts that Vysočina can offer. The highlands are picturesque and the combination of deer hunting between the draws is undeniably beautiful. Even the fifth strongest roe deer hunted in the Czech Republic comes from Vysočina from the Rozsochatec hunt.

Over time, the European fallow deer began to spread from the peripheral parts of the Highlands to its center, and today fallow deer can be hunted in essentially the entire Highlands. Almost ten years ago, there were no such possibilities. Today, it is not a problem in Vysočina to experience deer estrus even in the wild and to come across strong shovelers, who are appearing more and more frequently throughout the region.

Mouflon in the wild has an island-like population scattered throughout the Highlands, with some rams achieving medal values. Their population has been kept in balance for years.

Due to the absence of extensive forest complexes in most of the Vysočina area, the European red deer is a marginal ungulate animal, where it is mainly found in the Žďár region, Třebíč region, and Tišnov region. However, this does not mean that it cannot be hunted in other parts of the Highlands, however, it is always a few individuals or a few dozen pieces per year. On the other hand, the trend of the growing deer population, as well as that of the fallow deer, gives room for new localities, where the deer is slowly but surely starting to appear.

Mallard, common pheasant or hare do not show particularly high populations in the national average, yet there are island-like localities, for example hare and pheasant in the Třebíč region and near Velké Meziříčí, where they simply thrive.

Other game species hunted, such as badger, fox or raccoon dog and others, have been on the rise for years and it is not unusual to hunt on a waiting badger thanks to the extensive rocky forests that create ideal conditions for hunting it. Indeed, badger hunting can be an interesting change for some hunters that they would like to experience.

Old ruins on every hill among forests, magnificent medieval castles or original gorges of wild rivers

If the hunter has time to look around during the hunt, he will surely be surprised by the many interesting places that can be visited. Almost every hunter has other hobbies in addition to hunting, and he will surely find his way in the Highlands as well. At a minimum, he can take his wife and children with him and they can organize day trips around the area, which offers countless beautiful views, but also interesting tourist attractions.

It is worth mentioning, for example, one of the largest castles in Central Europe of its time. This is the castle of Lipnice nad Sázavou, which is partly destroyed, but at the same time palaces have been preserved in it. The views of the surrounding area from the hunters will surely enhance the hunter's imagination, when he can look at the peak of Melechov with a large population of mouflons, or at the Orlovy forest complex, where the wildebeest population, including wild boars, plays an irreplaceable role.
