Marmots are hunted at altitudes from 800 to 3,000 m above sea level from mid-August to the end of September. You can hunt marmots in beautiful summer weather, but also in the snow.
The fee-based marmot hunt takes place in the hunting area of Obergur near the Italian border in South Tyrol.
The hunting trip is planned for 3 nights and 2 hunting days.
The hunting trip is designed as a package with 2 marmots, including accommodation, guides, documents, and all-inclusive meals. Each additional harvested marmot is charged extra.
In the fall, it is possible to combine marmot hunting with hunting chamois or ibex.
For hunting marmots, a small caliber rifle (243 Win, 222 Rem, 223 Rem, etc.) is required, ideally with a full metal jacket bullet. If you do not own such a caliber, you can borrow one from the guide. The hunt takes place at distances of 50 to 150 meters while lying down or hidden behind rocks, etc. Marmots are active in the morning but also during the day.
Accommodation is arranged in a simple but cozy mountain hunting lodge, which has 6 open beds and two bathrooms.
The hunting area of Obergur is also a skiing center Sölden, where the ski season starts in September and ends in May, so it is possible to plan the hunting trip with a sports program as well.
