Bear hunting takes place in the Kupres hunting area, located in the western part of central Bosnia and Herzegovina. Hunting is conducted across a 50,000-hectare mountainous territory at elevations ranging from 700 to 2,000 meters above sea level.
Thanks to the very sparse population of the local mountains, this is a true wilderness where, in addition to bears, hunters may encounter wolves, capercaillies, and roe deer, as well as small game—primarily woodcocks and partridges.
The hunt takes place in either the spring or the autumn. For the spring hunt, bear hunting is permitted from March 15 to May 31, but the best time is during March and April.
In the autumn, hunting is permitted from October 1 to December 31, a period when bears are active, particularly during the early part of the season. Everything depends on the weather and when snow falls in the mountains.
Brown bears are hunted here at bait sites from comfortable high seats at a range of 50 to 100 meters. Bear sizes range from 100 to 500 CIC points. If a hunter wants a gold-medal bear, they will get one. The success rate is typically 90–100%.
Accommodation is always provided near the hunting grounds in guesthouses, hotels, or hunting lodges. All these accommodations are of a very high standard.
CITES and all documents for the transport of the trophy have been sorted out.
